Because what’s Christmas without hot chocolate?! This recipe was actually created to satisfy the curiosity of my little girls who are always asking for a sip of my coffee + Peppermint EO. Clearly coffee is off the table, so hot chocolate was the obvious next choice.
While I could have gone with something quick and simple like the instant version, I didn’t want to muddle such an amazing oil by mixing it with something less than stellar. Thus my quest for the perfect hot chocolate recipe began!
If you look up “perfect hot chocolate recipe” you’ll get thousands of results. They all look and sound amazing, but I wanted something classic, rich, and velvety- but not overpowering. After browsing around a bit and making comparisons, I went with my own version of this recipe and it was a unanimous hit! Yes it takes a little bit more time than instant (very little), but it’s SO worth it! We all agree that this will be a new Christmas staple in our home and hopefully in yours too!🎄🍫☕️
1/3 cup water
5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups almond milk
Toothpick dip of dōTERRA Peppermint (you could also try Cinnamon Bark, Lavender or Wild Orange!)
Splash of heavy cream
Mix water, cocoa powder, coconut sugar, and salt over heat until smooth and almost boiling (be careful not to burn!).
Add vanilla and soy milk and remove from heat once it begins to simmer.
Pour a splash of heavy cream into your favorite mug, add hot chocolate, and swirl in a toothpick dip of dōTERRA Peppermint. Drink as is or top with caramel drizzled whip cream, marshmallows and chocolate shavings, or all of the above, and enjoy!
