Essential Cold + Flu Recipes

Tis the season for coughs and sniffles, but don’t worry there’s an oil for that- lots actually! Check out a few recipes I’ve compiled from The Essential Life for common ailments during the holidays and beyond! Also, be sure to check out the safety chart on dilution below and adjust recipes accordingly. Cheers to health and happiness!

Fever

Add to a 10mL Roller:

10 drops Lavender

10 drops Lemon

10 drops Peppermint

Fill remainder with FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil)

Roll on forehead/temples, spine, and feet. If using on children, be careful not to put the oil in a place they can touch and later rub their eyes.

Cough

1/2 cup honey

8 drops Peppermint

8 drops Lemon

8 drops Lavender

8 drops Frankincense

3 drops Clove

3 drops Wild Orange

1 drop Cinnamon

Mix and take one spoonful every three hours as needed

Sore Throat

Add 1 drop of Ginger and 3 drops Lemon to a teaspoon of honey. Can be added to warm water or placed in a spoon and licked.

Sniffles

Add the following essential oils to a diffuser or cold mist dehumidifier:

3 drops Breathe + 3 drops Frankincense

1 drop Siberian Fir + 2 drops Wild Orange + 2 drops Cinnamon

5-10 drops Breathe

5 drops OnGuard

2 drops Cardamom + 2 drops Rosemary + 2 drops Lime

An alternate technique to try if you do not have a diffuser or cold mist humidifier, is the mug method:

Fill a mug about 3/4 full with water, heat until steaming, add two drops of your oils of choice and hold in front of your face (not too close!) to breathe in steam. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Flu Bomb

Add 2 drops each to a veggie capsule:

Oregano

OnGuard

Melaluca

Lemon

Frankincense

Take 2 capsules every 4-6 hours as needed

For a 10 mL roller bottle, add 10 drops each of the oils listed above and fill remainder with FCO. Roll on spine and bottoms of the feet 4-6 times a day as needed.
